Koru Financial Group Inc. ("Koru Financial", "we", "us" or "our") is an independent mortgage brokerage licensed in Ontario (FSRA #12726). Your personal information is part of every mortgage we arrange, and we take protecting it seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have.
This policy applies to personal information we collect through our website (korufinancial.ca), by phone, by email, in person and through our online mortgage application. It covers clients and prospective clients, people who use our calculators, people who apply to work with us, and anyone else who contacts us.
We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Ontario's Mortgage Brokerages, Lenders and Administrators Act, 2006, and the other laws that apply to mortgage brokerages.
We only collect what we need for the purposes described in this policy.

If you give us information about another person, such as a co-applicant, spouse or guarantor, please make sure they have agreed to share it with us.
We do not sell your personal information.
We collect, use and share your personal information with your consent, except where the law allows or requires otherwise. Depending on how sensitive the information is, your consent may be express (for example, signing a consent form before we pull your credit report or submit your application) or implied (for example, emailing us a question implies you'd like a reply by email).
You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits, by contacting our Privacy Officer. If you withdraw consent, we may not be able to keep helping you with a mortgage. For example, a lender can't consider an application without the information it needs.
We share personal information only as needed to provide our services, with your consent or as the law requires:
Some of our service providers, such as website hosting, email and cloud software, may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it's there, it's protected by contracts and safeguards, but it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities in that country under its laws.
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to work properly (for example, to keep forms and calculators running), to keep the site secure and to understand how visitors use it so we can improve it. Some pages load content from third parties, such as web fonts and our online application platform, which may receive technical information like your IP address.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work properly without them.
When you ask for something, such as calculator results or a reply to your message, we'll send it to the email address you give us. We'll only send you marketing emails (like rate updates or newsletters) where we have your consent or are otherwise permitted under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe, or you can contact us at any time to stop them.
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes it was collected for, or as long as the law requires. Mortgage brokerage and anti-money-laundering laws require us to keep certain client and transaction records for a set number of years. Website inquiries and calculator requests that don't lead to a mortgage are generally deleted within 24 months. When information is no longer needed, we securely destroy it or make it anonymous.
We use safeguards that match how sensitive the information is, including:
No method of sending or storing information is completely secure. Please don't email sensitive documents unless we ask you to; we can provide a secure way to send them. If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the law requires.
Send requests to our Privacy Officer (details below). We'll respond within 30 days and may ask you to confirm your identity first. In limited cases the law allows or requires us to refuse access, for example if it would reveal information about someone else. If so, we'll explain why.
Our site links to other websites, such as lenders and our application platform. Their privacy practices are their own, so please review their policies.
Our services are for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority without a parent's or guardian's involvement.
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be posted on this page.
If you have questions, want to make a request, or have a concern about how we handle your personal information, please contact:
